Addressing
his nation on national day in 1980 His Majesty said:
We
now stand, today, on the threshold of another new
era that will challenge us to display all the
qualities and determination that have stood us so
well in the past. The road that still lies ahead
will not be an easy one - we can be sure that the
dangers that confront us will not recede overnight,
that they may indeed become even more menacing - but
if we remain true to our great heritage, if we
strive always to walk humbly and resolutely in the
steps God has chosen for us, then we shall succeed.
In his speech made in 1985
His Majesty
said:
As a result of our great concern for the protection
of the natural environment, and our achievements in
this respect, Oman has gained a respectable position
among nations concerned with environmental
protection; yet we still have to exert more effort
and consider the special conditions relevant to this
issue, when we come to plan and implement
development projects. We must proceed to develop
contacts with regional and international
organisations concerned. It is a duty which must be
undertaken by each citizen, to guarantee the
protection of our natural resources and public
health against any harmful effects, and protect the
beautiful and distinguished nature which God
Almighty granted to our beloved Oman.
Citing development plan and use of resources
His Majesty
in 1990
We intend to introduce our Fourth Development Plan
next year. We have commanded that priority must be
given to the completion and furtherance of our
development programmes in their respective areas;
especially those in urgent need of new projects and
services. At the same time, we stress the importance
of more intensive effort, in this coming era, to
develop the economy of our country, through
carefully prepared programmes to achieve greater
economic growth. We especially stress the necessity
to continue the emphasis on the exploitation of our
agriculture and fisheries resources, so they can
increasingly contribute to our national economy.
Arising from our continuous concern to promote our
various productive resources, and in the light of
what has been achieved in the two Years of
Agriculture, we declare that 1991 shall be the Year
of Industry. It is to take into account traditional
industries and professions together with their
modern counterparts.
Appreciating
the nation for their contribution he said in 1995
You have all played your
part in the making of this new chapter in Oman's
history. Everyone has made his own contribution,
according to his ability, in building this structure
of our future. We are confident that the coming
generations will appreciate all you have done, and
with God's permission, will work to consolidate and
strengthen it further. You are the pioneers who
blazed the trail that ensured that, in days to come,
our progress will be faster and unconfined, with our
future gains assured.
Marking the country achievement in 2000
His Majesty
termed as:
Over
the past three decades, the Renaissance has proved
that its roots reach deep into the realities of this
nation, its human heritage and its noble values. At
the same time, it has also proved itself able to
stay abreast of the times, keep pace with
developments in different fields, use modern
scientific achievements to help develop the
community, and lay the foundations of a modem state
that will enable the Omani people to realise their
ambitions in a future full of light and hope and
radiant with glory and honour - a future that, God
willing, promises greater stability, prosperity and
abundance.
Dear Citizens,
All of you are aware of the great part played by our
armed forces and all the security services in
creating Oman's modern Renaissance, in protecting
its numerous achievements and in maintaining
stability and security across the land. As we
express our appreciation and our pride in all the
prodigious tasks and demanding duties they perform,
we ask Almighty God to enable us to provide them
with further backing and support, so that they can
continue to develop their potential and
capabilities.
